John Carpenter's Vampires (1997)

Directed by
Johnny Carpenter

Vampire slayer Jack Crow (James Woods) and his band of hired guns are celebrating after destroying a nest of vampires in rural New Mexico. But while they party, the villainous Valek (Thomas Ian Griffith) is plotting. Valek recently celebrated his 600th birthday but he shows few signs of slowing down, and he snacks unmercifully on Crow's drunken crew.

Only Crow and his compatriot Montoya (Daniel Baldwin) remain alive. The two must stop Valek from finding a particular crucifix which enables vampires to walk in the sun. As everyone knows, that's the single factor which has kept them from world domination. Through mountains and farflung deserts, Crow and Valek battle for survival and power, wreaking violence and pursuing a bloody vendetta.

The film is based on the novel by John Steakley.
