It Could Happen to You (1994)

Charlie Lang (Nicolas Cage) is a cop who finds himself unable to tip Yvonne Biasi (Bridget Fonda) after a cup of coffee down at the local cafe.

As way of an apology, and thank you for service, he promises that if his numbers come up on the lottery, he'll share the winnings with her.

Not expecting it at all, Lo and behold, the next day he finds he's $4,000,000 richer as his numbers are picked. So Yvonne gets her $2M and everyone goes home happy?

No. A spanner is thrown into the works in the shape of Muriel (Rosie Perez), Charlie's wife, who wants to keep all the dosh for herself, and definately does NOT want to share it with a waitress.

Based on a true story, this is a gentle, feel-good romantic comedy. Isaac Hayes turns in an excellent role as the tabloid journalist covering the story and Perez revels in her role as the hard-hearted, money-grabbing villain.
