Hilary Swank stars as determined women's rights activist Alice Paul in Katja von Garnier's compelling drama based on real events.
Together with her best friend Lucy Burns (Frances O'Connor), Alice becomes involved with the female suffrage movement of the early 20th century and is taken under the wing of seasoned campaigner Carrie Chapman Catt (Anjelica Huston). But it quickly becomes apparent that the breezy, rebellious spirit of the two younger activists contrasts starkly with the more conservative older generation.
After breaking free and forming the National Woman's Party (NWP), Paul and Burns lead a band of rebellious young women intent of securing the right to vote. But opposing popular President Woodrow Wilson during war-time is controversial and the NWP soon becomes a target for vitriol and violence.
But their resolve is unwavering, as they battle incarceration, abuse and smear campaigns to achieve their dream of equality.
Featuring an outstanding female cast that includes Julia Ormond, Molly Parker and Vera Farmiga, Iron Jawed Angels tells the remarkable true story of the women who put their lives on the line to fight for the right to vote.
