Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)

Directed by
Don Siegel

Arguably the best version of Jack Finney's novel, this 1956 sci-fi thriller still has unbridled power to shock. Directed by Don Siegel, the film has been interpreted as a clever metaphor on the communist witch-hunt, prevalent in the US at the time.

Dr Miles Bennel (Kevin McCarthy) returns to his Californian home town and finds that a number of his patients have paranoid delusions that their friends or family are impostors. Initially sceptical, he realises that something bizarre may have occured. Could it be that emotionless alien clones have replaced innocent human beings while they're asleep? Dr Bennell is determined to uncover the truth...

Highly recommended.
