Don is a Smoke Jumper, firefighters who parachute into forest fires and battle them from within. After he meets and falls in love with Rene, a former firefighter, Don agrees to take a safer job and spend time with his new family. However, he finds the lure of the Smoke Jumpers too compelling to resist and eventually places his marriage - and his own life - in danger.
