Curtis Hanson's film stars Cameron Diaz as Maggie Feller: blonde, feckless and shallow, and Toni Collette as her sister Rose, a top-notch lawyer who is insecure in her personal life.
The pair reluctantly share Rose's apartment until Maggie sleeps with the man Rose hoped would be her boyfriend. Thrown out, Maggie discovers the existence of their maternal grandmother, Ella, who they didn't know existed, and moves in with her in her Florida retirement complex.
At first, Maggie is out to get what she can from Ella but as the pair spend more time together, she learns important life lessons, as does Rose in this moving comedy drama.
