Bright and pretty prep-school student Daisy (Claire Danes) is having problems at school due to the fact that she is Jewish. When she must face anti-Semitic taunts from her fellow students, she talks with her Nana (Jeanne Moreau) about her unhappy school life. To add to her plight she has developed an impossible crush on the most popular boy in school, Ethan Wells (Jude Law).
Whilst talking, Daisy's highly spirited Nana begins to tell her grand-daughter about her own younger life in Europe during the Second World War under the terror of the Nazi's. We learn and hear about Nana being sent to ghetto and then to the concentration camps and the ordeals she was forced to encounter every day.
On listening to these stories of plight Daisy begins to realise that she may have been a victim of the Holocaust herself in a previous life!
