David O Russell's existential comedy stars Jason Schwartzman as Albert Markovski, an environmentalist who teams up with the chain store Huckabees to promote his cause. Huckabees representatives Brad Stand and Dawn Campbell just need him as a cover for their expansion plans but when Albert hires existential detectives Bernard and Vivian Jaffe, their 24/7 surveillance of Albert, Brad and Dawn soon reveals a series of philosophical connections, even though Bernard and Vivian are being followed by rival detective Caterine Vauban. Russell's sheer audacity and the weaving of the various characters' searches for meaning into the plot make for an intriguing, original film.
