When small-time pimp Djay (Howard) learns that his childhood friend Skinny Black (Ludacris) is returning to Memphis for a sell-out rap concert, he decides to lay down a few tracks of his own in the hope that Skinny can help him to become a star.
It may be difficult to forgive Djay for his callous work as a drug dealer and pimp, but Howard's portrayal of the macho criminal with hip-hop aspirations is gritty and engaging. And while Howard lost out to Phillip Seymour Hoffman at the Oscars, his screen hit 'It's hard out here for a pimp' did collect an award.
