Groundhog Day (1993)

Directed by
Harold Ramis

This 1993 comedy follows Phil Collins (Bill Murray), a weatherman who is sent reluctantly to cover a story about a groundhog whose actions are supposed to predict the weather. Along with his co-workers Rita (Andie MacDowell) and Larry (Chris Elliott), they head off to Punxsutawney to investigate. This is the fourth year Phil has been given the story, and he makes no effort to hide his hatred for the creature, as well as the story.

On awaking the day after the celebrations, he discovers that it's Groundhog Day again, and the following day is Groundhog Day again, and again, and again. First he uses the repetitive nature of time to his advantage, then comes the realisation that he is doomed to spend the rest of eternity in the same hated place, seeing the same hated people and doing the same hated thing every day.
