Showing as part of BBC Two's Summer of British Film season, Bill Forsyth's 1980 rom-com focuses on the teenage love triangle of goalkeeper Gregory (John Gordon Sinclair - known then as Gordon John Sinclair), centre forward Dorothy (Dee Hepburn) and her friend Susan (Clare Crogan). When super-striker Dorothy joins the team, Gregory develops a crush on her but finds it hard to get a date.
A charming film - and a surprise worldwide hit - Forsyth's tremendous script perfectly encapsulates teen romantic angst. The movie - which picked up a Bafta - helped to kick off Sinclair's career, and brought Crogan - who went on to front the pop band Altered Images - into the limelight.
