Ulu Grosbard's Oscar-nominated film stars Jennifer Jason Leigh as Sadie and Mare Winningham as her sister Georgia. Both are singers but while Georgia is a successful country folk singer, Sadie is taking the Joplin road to fame, descending into alcoholism despite the best efforts of doting husband Axel.
