This tremendous sci-fi film spoof, released in 1999, is such a convincing and polished parody that it could easily pass muster as the genuine thing. The stars of a 1970s sci-fi show - now scraping a living through re-runs and sci-fi conventions - are beamed aboard an alien spacecraft. Believing the cast's heroic on-screen dramas are historical documents of real-life adventures, the band of aliens turn to the ageing celebrities for help in their quest to overcome the oppressive regime in their galaxy.
There's a great deal to enjoy here. The plot is strong, the pace is fast and the casting is near perfect - especially Tim Allen (as the ship's commander), Sigourney Weaver (as the communications officer) and Alan Rickman (on stand-out form as the snooty British thespian, playing a half-reptilian science officer).
