Ted Crawford (Anthony Hopkins) is a 60-something aviation engineer with a much younger wife. When he discovers she's having an affair, he coldly and deliberately shoots her in the face. She's left comatose, and Ted is arrested. It seems like an open-and-shut case, so hotshot young lawyer Willy Beachum (Ryan Gosling, pictured) decides to take on the prosecution, expecting it to be a breeze. But he doesn't reckon on Crawford's razor-sharp ability to defend himself in any way possible.
Released in 2007, Fracture is a slick and clever courtroom thriller, with a slick and clever cast to match. Hopkins slips easily into the villainous role of the Lecter-like Crawford, Gosling continues his climb up the Hollywood ladder, and former Bond girl Rosamund Pike is understandably cast as a law firm's resident ice queen.
