Gunslinger Cole Thornton rides into a small town to work for a cattle baron, but quits before he has even started when he learns that his would-be employer wants to drive a family off their land to get at a water supply. He leaves the situation unresolved, but a chance encounter takes him back to El Dorado, where he joins the sheriff in a range war.
