Sentimental drama about a ten-year-old girl living in a run-down motel in smalltown 1960s Pennsylvania, with a resentful sister and alcoholic mother. When a dying woman and her childlike adult son have car trouble on their way through town, the girl and the man strike up a friendship, finding the acceptance and affection the world has hitherto denied them.
