Audie Murphy stars in this remake of 1939's Destry Rides Again, which is directed by the man who made the previous version, George Marshall. When a small-town sheriff dies of a heart attack, the mayor appoints the town drunk, Rags, as the dead man's replacement. The mayor also tries to foist his criminal sidekick upon him as his deputy. But Rags refuses, instead seeking the help of Tom Destry Jr, the son of a lawman Rags once worked with. When Destry arrives in town, everyone's surprised how young he is. The mayor and his shady associates are gleeful, thinking he'll be a pushover. However, the youth is determined to bring law and order to the town; and to discover the real cause of the previous sheriff's death... With Mari Blanchard as Brandy, the singer in the town's saloon.
