Brother and sister Addison (Eric Bana) and Liza (Olivia Wilde) have just pulled off a casino heist, but when their getaway car crashes and Addison kills a policeman, the pair decide splitting up and heading for the border is their best chance of escape.
While Addison battles for survival in the bitter, snowy Canadian woodland, Liza is picked up by recently released convict Jay (Charlie Hunnam). But can either of them evade the attentions of young cop Hanna (Kate Mara)?
There are lots of intriguing strands to this slow-burning crime drama from the director of 2008 Oscar winner 'The Counterfeiters'. Some on-the-nose moments betray debut writer Zach Dean's inexperience at times, but Deadfall is still an entertaining journey that grips to the end.
While a more heavyweight leading man might have lifted Addison's scenes up a notch, this is still a finely cast feature with Wilde (Rush), Mara (House of Cards) and Hunnam (Pacific Rim) very much stars on the rise.
