Released in 2004, Shane Meadows's thriller is set in a small, bleak Derbyshire town. After seven years in the army, Richard (Paddy Considine) returns to find out what happened to his slightly retarded, beloved brother Anthony (Toby Kebbell), who latched on to the local drugs cartel and became the butt of their cruelty.
As Richard begins to take revenge against the gang, led by Sonny (Gary Stretch, an ex-boxer turned surprisingly good actor), the story of Anthony's life and fate unfolds through flashback and revelations.
