Powerful, factually based story of Aids sufferer Ron Woodroof, who smuggled unapproved pharmaceutical drugs into Texas in the 1980s which he used to treat himself and sold to others who were HIV-positive via a business called the Dallas Buyers Club. Woodroof is an electrician whose freewheeling lifestyle includes casual sex, heavy drinking and cocaine abuse. Everything changes when he is diagnosed with Aids and told he has 30 days to live. Discovering that a drug thought to extend the life of Aids patients is only available in the US in clinical trials, he sets out to bypass the law and succeeds in creating a supply chain to deliver vital drugs to fellow sufferers at a time when Aids treatments were in their infancy. Matthew McConaughey and co-star Jared Leto won the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor Oscars, the film being only the fifth to win both awards.
