Sam Rockwell, Hilary Swank and Melissa Leo star in Tony Goldwyn's fact-based drama. When Kenny Waters is jailed for murder, his elder sister Betty Anne can't believe it. She knows he has an unruly streak and that his temper occasionally flares violently, but she's certain he's not capable of the brutal murder of an old woman. Nancy Taylor, the officer in charge of the case, sees things very differently and, although only the slimmest of circumstantial evidence and hearsay link Kenny to the murder, he is charged and then found guilty. However, over the course of the following decade, advances in forensics and Betty Anne's transformation, through hard study, into a campaigning lawyer combine to offer Kenny hope. As long as the police kept all the evidence and records relating to his case.
