Joaquin Phoenix is Clay Bidwell, a gas-station attendant in a small town who keeps being found at the scenes of murders: his best friend, a waitress he has an affair with, his ex-mistress - even when he goes fishing, he snags a corpse... FBI agents Janeane Garofalo and Phil Morris get him behind bars but he soon escapes, setting out to track down the real culprit and prove his innocence in David Dobkin's decidedly black comedy thriller.
