The esteemed and prolific writer/director André Téchiné (Strayed, Wild Reeds, My Favourite Season, Alice and Martin and more recently The Girl on the Train) explores the complex aspects of love with France's two biggest, living icons.
Téchiné once again calls upon his actress of choice Catherine Deneuve (their fifth of six collaborations so far and counting) to square up against the likewise internationally renowned Gérard Depardieu.
Reuniting the star pair for the sixth time (including François Truffaut's commercial smash The Last Metro) Téchiné forges an engaging dynamic between the two; Depardieu is an irrational romantic, clinging to the memory of his adolescent love, in stark contrast to Deneuve's settled, married mother.
Bringing to mind Gabriel Garcia Marquez's classic tale of enduring romance, Love in the Time of Cholera, Téchiné deftly converges disparate narrative strands and deeply, personal performances to evoke an equally endearing and compelling story on screen.
