Director Martin Scorsese struck gold again with this absorbing, underrated crime drama, released in 1995.
According to Sam "Ace" Rothstein (Robert De Niro, pictured), running the Tangier casino "is like robbing a bank with no cops around". Rothstein is the biggest name in Sin City, at a time when the Mafia had complete control of Las Vegas during the 1970s and 80s. However, Rothstein's easy casino life becomes a lottery with the arrival of violent hardman Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci) and duplicitous callgirl Ginger (Sharon Stone).
A superb movie, the real revelation is Sharon Stone, who earnt herself an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe win for her performance as the drug-addled, unpredictable wife of De Niro.
