American truck driver Paul Conroy (Ryan Reynolds) is working in Iraq when, suddenly, he is attacked. After regaining consciousness, with little memory of the incident, Paul slowly realises he is in a coffin, buried underground. Panicked, he searches desperately for a way out, his only hope seeming to lie with two items he's been given - a mobile phone and a cigarette lighter. Paul calls his family and his employers for help, but, with no idea where he is, he faces a desperate fight to escape before his air supply runs out.
Like the similarly Iraq War-themed The Hurt Locker, Buried provides viewers with an unbearably intimate experience, pushing the tension to its nail-biting limits. While featuring the voices of Tobolowsky, Samantha Mathis and co, the only actor who actually appears on screen is Reynolds.
