This drama in which a holiday adventure goes horribly wrong for two young Americans when they are convicted of drug smuggling in Thailand.
Alice Marano (Claire Danes) and Darlene Davis (Kate Beckinsale) are the best of friends, and have been since birth almost. The two friends decided along time ago that on graduated from high school, they would treat themselves to their first holiday together, firstly settling on the idea of Florida, the two later decide to visit the beautiful country of Thailand as they hear Bangkok is much more fun.
They leave America, without telling their parent's of their change in plans and arrive in bustling Bangkok where they have a whale of a time, despite their $6 a night accomodation.
While here the two go for a swim at a luxury hotel but find they are short of cash when it comes to paying for their drinks. However they meet and befriend a charming Australian software developer called Nick Parks (Daniel Lapaine) who bails them out
Nick seems like a nice enough guy, although he can't decide which girl he wants more. He soon manages to convince the two teenagers that Hong Kong is great and they should go for the weekend. He tells them that he is willing to exchange his first class plane ticket for three economy if they would accompany him and the girls jump at the chance.
However, at the airport the police suddenly arrive and take the girls to a security office where they, and their baggage, are checked. There nightmare starts when the authorities find a large quantity of heroin in their backpack's.
They are soon convicted in a show trial and sentenced to 33 years in the Bangkok hell-hole known to all as "The Bangkok Hilton". Darlene's father has no luck freeing the girls from prison, even when he looks for help from the local DEA agents.
In desperation, they contact "Yankee" Hank Green (Bill Pullman), a sleazy American lawyer who is based in Thailand reported to be helpful... if you've got the right amount of cash!
