Director Hettie MacDonald made her debut with this teenage coming-of-age/coming-out comedy-drama starring Glen Berry and Scott Neal. Jamie is an introverted youngster who's bullied at school for his preference of movies over sport. He lives on a London housing estate with his busy mother Sandra, who dreams of running her own pub. Jamie's other passion is his neighbour and classmate Ste, who's sporty and popular at school, but regularly endures the violence meted out by his alcoholic father and drug dealing older brother. One day, Sandra gives Ste respite from the beatings by letting him stay in her flat, where the boys platonically share Jamie's bed. But, the next night, they abandon their chaste top-to-tail arrangement, share a kiss and tentatively begin to explore their emerging sexual identities. Also starring Tameka Epson, Ben Daniels and Meera Syal. A Channel Four Films co-production.
