2415: 400 years after a deadly virus wiped out most of the world's population, a handful survive in the walled city of Bregna, a Utopian paradise ruled by a congress of scientists. For most, Bregna is a haven from the dangers of the outside world; but for rebel assassin Aeon Flux (Charlize Theron) and her Monican comrades, the city is a gilded cage and its inhabitants are easy prey for a murderous government.
When her sister is killed by government operatives, Aeon vows to kill the chairman Trevor Goodchild (Marton Csokas), but after infiltrating his maximum-security headquarters she finds she cannot pull the trigger. As the plot twists towards its bullet-riddled conclusion, Aeon realises that she may be looking for the bad guys in the wrong place.
Although this sci-fi thriller, released in 2005, is strong on special effects and elaborate stunts, it didn't fare too well with the critics. The storyline was criticised for being too serious and failing to deliver, while the dialogue was felt to be weak. But Theron does her best and looks tremendous as the hard-as-nails assassin.
