While hardly earth-shattering, this musical drama - starring rapper Eminem (pictured) and Kim Basinger - is surprisingly strong. That's because Eminem is a revelation as Jimmy "B-Rabbit" Smith, a disillusioned young blue-collar worker. B-Rabbit tries to escape from his dead-end Detroit life by competing in rapping competitions, but it's not easy. He looses his job and his pregnant girlfriend, and ends up living at home with his alchoholic mother (Basinger).
With shades of Rocky and a hip-hop version of Saturday Night Fever, it builds to quite a showdown. Well worth watching.
