In this sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey, in which Dave Bowman was taken by the Jupiter monolith and transformed into a powerful being.
Now in 2010 we follow a joint American-Soviet expedition, headed by Dr. Heywood Floyd (Roy Scheider), as they are sent to Jupiter to discover what went wrong with the U.S.S. Discovery against a backdrop of growing global tensions.
Among the mysteries of which the expedition must explain are the appearance of a huge black monolith in Jupiter's orbit and the fate of the psychotic H.A.L.9000, the Discovery's sentient computer which the group must reactivate so they may learn what happened to the ship. They must also find out the meaning of Dave Bowman's last transmission... "My God, it's full of stars..."
