Burr Steers' teen body-swap comedy stars Zac Efron and Matthew Perry in the dual lead role. In 1989, high school student Mike O'Donnell's hopes of a great basketball career were put on hold when his girlfriend Scarlett fell pregnant and he did the right thing by her. Now, the adult O'Donnell is down on his luck: he's lost his job, separated from Scarlett, lost his kids' love, and ends up moving in with his best friend, Ned.
On a nostalgic trip back to his old school O'Donnell bumps into a mysterious caretaker and admits that he wishes he could have a second chance at his life. Well, it's not long before O'Donnell's body has magically reverted to his 17-year-old self, though temporally he's still in 2009: he got his wish, sort of. Next comes the tricky stuff: finding a cover story and getting enrolled in his old school; dealing with the sexual mores of 21st century teens - in particular, those of his own daughter; and, perhaps, finding reconciliation with Scarlett.
