In prehistoric Africa, mammoth hunter D'Leh (Steven Strait) yearns to capture the heart of blue-eyed tribe beauty Evolet (Camilla Belle) by proving his worth with a spear. But his plans are undone when she is snatched by a pack of evil marauders looking for slaves. Now D'Leh must cross the frozen peaks and endless deserts of a treacherous continent to save his true love and the future of his tribe.

Director Roland Emmerich puts his experience of big-budget actioners Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow to excellent use with this ambitious primordial adventure. Impressive CGI brings to life an array of savage creatures including a sabre-tooth tiger and killer dodos, while Strait and Belle provide the chemistry that drives the plot. An enjoyable action/adventure with added clout in the form of narrator Omar Sharif.
