Matthew Webb settles in and is introduced to the family but after a tour of his rubber plantation he is troubled to see that questionable practices are taking place. Joan sweeps him off to an amusement part with Monty and Ehrendorf, where Vera becomes intrigued by the newcomer, and soon he finds himself in the middle of a tug-of-war between Vera and Joan, battling for his affections.
