Jack is let off by the police investigating Janet's death. But he's still struggling to make sense of Doug's grisly hoax - forcing him to bury the "body" of a woman who later turned up alive and well. He becomes convinced Doug is Janet's real killer - and that he murdered Lilian Stokes too. With Andrea's help he breaks into Doug's photographic lab in search of evidence - but he's caught and given a restriction order, banning him from living in Hadleigh Corner. With his father Don now an invalid, Kay hardly speaking to him, Doug warning him to stay away from Andrea and files mysteriously disappearing at work, Jack moves into a house at the beach.
