Reese regains consciousness after the car crash to find himself sitting next to Agent Mark Snow with them both wearing vests packed with explosives. Reese's former partner and lover Kara Stanton is holding the trigger to the bombs and forces the two men to break into a top-secret Department of Defence cyber-terrorism lab to help her steal a new virus powerful enough to shut down the Machine.
