Our Friends in the North: 1964

Peter Flannery's radio adaptation of his epic award-winning 1996 TV drama examining the politics and change across Britain from the 1960s to the 1990s seen through the varying fortunes of four friends. The series will also end with a new 10th episode, written by Adam Usden, bringing the story up to the present day. The drama opens in 1964 with 20-year-old Nicky meeting his girlfriend Mary on the beach. Her plans for them to spend the rest of the summer together are scuppered by his sudden decision to throw himself into canvassing for the Labour Party ahead of the general election
