A schoolteacher is shot and the subsequent investigation quickly exposes a tangled conspiracy involving the rape of a woman with learning difficulties by three callous students. Briscoe finds it difficult to keep his mind on the job, however, as his daughter prepares to testify against her drug dealer - but the case collapses, leading to tragedy.
