Armed robbers target post offices around Aidensfield and Mason finds himself working with old flame Rachel Dawson, whose career is under threat following an affair with a senior colleague. Carol is not impressed when Rachel is spotted in a clinch with Joe, but he claims it was in the line of duty and completely innocent. Peggy offers to clean for Edward Walton (played by former Likely Lads actor Rodney Bewes), raising Oscar's suspicion she is after his money, but it is Edward's wife, now in a nursing home, who turns out to have a shady past
