Once there, however, she embarks on a passionate relationship with David Power, son of Castlebay's doctor and a fellow student.
This affair has devastating results for Claire, however, and the repercussions echo throughout their home town as his mother doesn't agree with this mix of class.
But David isn't the only one who loves Clare - she has also become the focal point of Gerry Doyle's (Stephen Holland) unhealthy attention.
Soon, everything gets more complicated as Clare and David are forced to make serious decisions that bring them back home.
