Unreported World: Ghost Warriors

Channel 4's critically acclaimed foreign affairs series continues in its ninth run. In the fourth programme of the new series, reporter Sandra Jordan travels to Thailand to investigate the mysterious campaign of violence in the rural areas of the south of the country where no one seems to know for sure who is fighting whom. Southern Thailand is mainly Muslim and many of the locals, who feel they are treated as second class citizens, would prefer to secede and become part of Malaysia instead of Buddhist Thailand. Is the escalating violence the work of Islamic separatists like the Thai government claims? Sandra Jordan finds many on the ground who beg to differ. She meets local people whose family have been shot by the government forces, while on the other side of the conflict she visits local schools where teachers and pupils have to be protected by soldiers.
