The World's Most Photographed: Mahatma Gandhi

Series 1, episode 8

An exploration of how Mahatma Gandhi used the power of photography as part of his peaceful protest against the British occupation of India. In April 1930, photographers from around the world captured the moment when he picked up a handful of salt on the shore of the Arabian Sea - thereby breaking the law. The programme also examines Gandhi's rapport with Life magazine's Margaret Bourke-White, and takes a look at Cartier-Bresson's moving images of the assassinated liberator's funeral
