A look at how Margaret Thatcher's struggling public image was transformed in 1982 when Argentine forces occupied the British overseas territory of the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic, with the triumph of the British forces making her reputation in the UK and around the world. On the home front she faced another challenge to her leadership from National Union of Miners, which called a UK-wide strike, while in 1984 the IRA bombed the Grand Hotel in Brighten in an attempt to kill her and her most senior colleagues
