Sunday Feature: Do Not Expect Applause: The Life and Poetry of Ws Graham

Series 1, episode 0

Paul Henry presents a celebration of arguably one of the greatest 20th century poets - WS Graham, whose work was an influence on Harold Pinter and whose genius was acknowledged by TS Eliot. Born in Greenock in 1918, Graham lived most of his adult life in Cornwall. A 'poet's poet', who was originally influenced by Dylan Thomas, he created work that was musical and technically brilliant. It was rooted in a sense of community and place, and explored the key theme of language. Paul introduces Graham's life and work, the reasons for his neglect and relative obscurity, focusing on the poet's final collection Implements in Their Places. He also visits places that inspired Graham and the people who were touched by his work
