Sunday Feature: Billy - The Other Lloyd Webber

Andrew Green marks the centenary of the birth of William Lloyd Webber - father of two famous musical sons and whose remarkable, passionate and romantic music has barely been heard. Lloyd Webber was a virtuoso organist, gifted teacher and accomplished administrator, who above all else wanted to be a composer. He gave up his teaching post at the Royal College of Music in 1948 to devote himself to composing, but ten years later after having written plenty of music all but abandoned composing, his sensitive nature making him fear critical ridicule of his romantic style.
