Emmerdale at 40: The Crimes

Series 1, episode 3

The Yorkshire village of Emmerdale has been a hotbed of crime over the years seeing everything from cold-blooded killers to illegal marriages and petty conmen. Now, the latest in the Emmerdale at 40 series takes a look back at some of the most thrilling plots and gripping twists and turns in the village's crime-ridden history. Cain Dingle has kept the local police busy since he moved into Emmerdale, but the pinnacle of his criminal career came in 2006 when actor Jeff Hordley, who plays Cain, decided to leave the show. Cain's exit was to be big bad and bold so he was paired up with Sadie King, who was trying to extort money from her former father-in-law Tom King. Cain kidnapped them both at gun point, but despite him threatening to kill her, the pair were actually working hand in hand. The kidnapping saw the soap tackle high-speed car and helicopter chases and spectacular stunts, which included a car plunging into a water-filled quarry.
