Word of Mouth: Scouse

Professor Tony Crowley grew up in the heart of Liverpool. As he grew up and went away to Oxford University he became increasingly interested in the way his fellow Liverpudlians use language. As a port city Liverpool has long been open to a wide variety of global influences and languages that developed into what's been termed 'Scouse'. That's a word that possibly originates in the Baltic region derived from the word 'lobscouse'. Presenter Michael Rosen talks to Tony about the rich and humorous language of Liverpool
