The Stanley Baxter Playhouse: The Showman

The Showman, by Rona Munro, set in 1561 during the reign of Mary Queen Of Scots. Protestant reformer John Knox and the monarch clash in Edinburgh's old town over the activities of a seemingly harmless troupe of comic and musical acts. The entertainers are led by a thespian called Murdo, the man with a fan club as big as the Royal Mile and the leading light of his self-styled act, Murdo and his Merry May Dancers. Tracy Wiles and Stuart McQuarrie star alongside Stanley Baxter. First aired in 2014
