The first of a two-part dramatisation by Chris Dolan of Honore de Balzac's tale of sibling rivalry, set in the aftermath of Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo. Returning from a brief but glorious career in the Emperor's army, Philippe Bridau squanders his adoring mother's savings to finance his obsession with gambling.
