Climate change means flooding is becoming more common - and one of the consequences of flooding is an influx of rats and the danger of disease. New Zealand is pioneering an ambitious plan to ban all mammal predators by 2050. As a starting point they have created Zealandia, a 225-hectare urban sanctuary to which many endangered species have been relocated. It is a zone without rats, stoats and possums. If the plan succeeds, within three decades every rat on the island will be dead. But could such a plan work here?
