Live from the Metropolitan Opera, New York, a performance of Verdi's great operatic tragedy. Soprano Sonya Yoncheva plays the title role of the 'fallen woman', the tragic courtesan Violetta, who falls in love with Alfredo, played by tenor Michael Fabiano. Baritone Thomas Hampson is Germont, Alfredo's father, who condemns Violetta's racy past and persuades her to leave Alfredo, unaware of the ultimate tragic sacrifice she will make for Alfredo. Presented by Mary Jo Heath, with commentatary from Ira Siff. Verdi: La Traviata.
